Many patients may be extremely anxious, worried, or nervous about having dental work completed. At Door County Dental Care, we offer two forms of sedation: Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedation. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is great for patients who have a slight to moderate anxiety to dental care. Nitrous oxide is delivered through a nasal mask and is breathed in by the patient. It makes the patient feel more relaxed and at-ease. For patients who are extremely anxious, oral sedation is a great solution. With oral sedation, the patient will take a pill that will help them to relax for the procedure. The patient will not be put to sleep but will be in a relaxed, care-free state. Patients often will fall asleep! During the time the patient is at the office, he or she will be able to respond to the dental clinicians. Typically, patients don’t remember anything about their appointment! We will monitor your vitals closely throughout treatment to ensure your safety. Before receiving any type of sedation, our highly trained dentists and staff will review the patients’ medical history and medications, which are variables that will determine if sedation can be used. Our dental team wants our patients to be as relaxed as possible! Please contact our office if you have any questions about sedation dentistry.
